Idea City is place for collaborating with our clients, our Best in Class Partners, and the community. We have a few collaboration tools, one being our board room table. What corporate meeting place would be complete without a board room table?
But there’s a problem with Second Life and real-world clients. Few clients have experience with SL, so navigation becomes a problem. “But we can give people a tour!” some say. But how? Going through orientation island takes time and the concept of second life is so different, it can be disorienting. Even people experienced in SL find it difficult sometimes to keep up with a tour guide.
The solution?
A flying boardroom table, of course!

All people need to be able to do is right click on a chair and choose “Sit”. Then, the person sitting in the red chair flies around the island giving a tour. All the other avatars see the same thing he’s seeing.
This way, people on the tour don’t need to now how to navigate in SL, they just watch their screen as the tour guide does all the work.
It’s been working well and people instantly loose their anxiety about what to do in-world. They then sit back and begin to let Second Life wash all over them. Once they relax, they begin to ask great questions and figure it out. I’ve found this lowering of anxiety is a great unintended benefit that allows us to go from, “This is weird, I don’t know how this would apply to anything we’re doing,” to “OK, now I get it. Now I can begin to think about how to creatively apply SL to my business.”
