A Little Blurb for the Publishing Business: SXSW Day 2

March 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

blurb-copy.jpgOne of the bigger revelations at SXSW was one of the simplest ideas on the tradeshow floor. The kind of idea that makes you bitter that you didn’t think of it first, cause it’s been staring us right in the face. “Web 2.0″ to the core (yes-yes, I was told at the show that we’re no longer supposed to use this descriptor - but heck it’s EXACTLY, what this web/app/community/commerce is all bout):

Helloooo Double Day…. This is your wake up call Mr. Bezos. The CGM revolution that’s got crusty music execs, and tv producers changing their diapers (while Simon Cowell and Mark Burnet bank cash), has moved the cross hairs in your general direction…..

Not that the nice folks at blurb.com have quite so evil intentions of course, they’ve just designed a site that’s as easy as Flickr, intuitive, with Adobe-like page layout functions that won’t mean spending a months pay on computer software. Write your book, lay it out yourself, print it for a ridiculously reasonable cost, and sell it online Amazon style.
Hallejuehia…now if I can just past writing little posts and get into chapters, maybe Ill make this book thing work for me too.
